Let Them Be Who They Are Words and Music by Pill Bere

So you think imagination is worth more than what you know?
Seven years old, you still can't read, you've got a ways to go
You're no good in school, a dreaming fool, Wake up and play the game
Just a zero, nada, zilch, No one will ever know your name....

So get your head down from the heavens, Get your feet back on the ground
Learn a trade, get a job, Put that violin down
Does it matter if God uses dice To make the heavens move?
Get a life, get real, Don't waste your time
On things no one can prove...

Let little Al be himself
Let little Al be himself, let him be who he is...
He looks at the world but his eyes never see
Things as they are, he sees what they could be...
Let little Al be himself, let him be who he is.

My girl, you can't just live your life alone with what you feel
Get into the kitchen, learn to cook and do what's real
Living life by writing fancy words in rhyme and verse
Counts for nothing in this world, it will never fill your purse...

So forget about the slant of light on winter afternoons
That oppresses like the heavy weight of dark cathedral tunes
Get yourself some new clothes, find a friend, go out and play
If you live your live through poetry No one will remember what you say.

Let Emily be herself
Let Emily be herself, let her be who she is...
She looks at the world but her eyes never see
Things as they are, she sees what they could be...
Let Emily be herself, let her be who she is...

So you think it's kind of special how you came into this land?
Son, you'd best get good at shaping wood with your own hands
It's not the time for new ideas, no time to take a stand
You can't walk on water after all, you're only just a man...

So get with it, start a business, Walk with profits (prophets) and with loss,
Balance out the ledgers, get a handle on the cost,
Toe the line, don't rock the boat, be loyal to your boss
It's an unforgiving world, if you make waves, They'll nail you to a cross...

Just let Jesu be himself
Just let Jesu be himself, let him be who he is...
He looks at the world but his eyes never see
Things as they are, he sees what they could be...
Just let Jesu be himself, let him be who is...

Let every child be himself
Let every child be herself, Let them be who they are...
They look at the world with eyes that see far,
They'll spread their own wings They'll find their own star..
Let every child be themself, Let them be who they are...
