Sleep Little One (Orphan's Lullaby)
words and Music by bill Pere
(from the musical "Pegasus")
Go to sleep my little one
Slip away through your fairyland door
When tomorrow's sunrise calls to you
Everything will be the same as before So enjoy your vacation,
Play your games, play hard, fast and wild
Be whatever you please, but be thankful
For the time you can spend as a child
For when you open your eyes and your fantasies fade
You'll find that despite the new sun
It's the same old room, the same old bed to be made
The same old chores to be done
But remember this well, the one real dream you can keep
Is the love I give you,
But right now, go to sleep...
Weaving winding webs of time
The passing years come and go
They take our dreams from us
And leave us things we don't wish to know
Though we can't change the pages
Of the stories in which we are cast
We find that whatever our age is
It's the dreams of the child that will last
When you open your eyes and your fantasies fade
You'll find though a new day has come
All the seas you have sailed, all the roads you have run
Have lead you right back where you started from
But remember this well, the one real dream you can keep
Is the love I give you,
But right now, go to sleep...
